Why I am running for Chelsea City Council:
Yesenia Alfaro is a long-time Chelsea resident, a mother, and a tireless advocate for working families. With over two decades of experience in community service, public education, and labor rights, Yesenia has built her life’s work around uplifting the voices of those too often left unheard — including immigrants, essential workers, small businesses, and low-income families.
Yesenia’s work extends beyond titles — she is a community bridge-builder, a mother, and a listener who understands the daily challenges of Chelsea families because she lives them too. From food insecurity to affordable housing, educational equity to job opportunities, Yesenia believes that local government must deliver for its people — and that it starts by putting working-class voices at the center of every policy decision.
Now, as a candidate for City Council At-Large, Yesenia Alfaro is ready to take that commitment citywide. With deep roots in Chelsea and a proven track record of service, she brings bold leadership, compassion, and a collaborative spirit to the table.
Chelsea deserves a councilor who understands the struggle of daily life, from fighting to ensure Chelsea is an affordable, healthy community to relentlessly working to create economic opportunity for all. That’s why Yesenia Alfaro is running — to make sure every family, no matter their background, has the chance to thrive in the City they call home.
As a current Union Business Agent with UFCW Local 1445, Yesenia represents hundreds of frontline workers across Massachusetts, advocating for fair wages, better working conditions, and the dignity all workers deserve. Her work has been instrumental in resolving grievances, negotiating contracts, and empowering workers with the tools to defend their rights in the workplace.
Yesenia also proudly served for over 10 years as a Chelsea School Committee Member, representing District 8, where she supported the creation of an innovative programs such as Chelsea Virtual Academy and Caminos, a dual-language pathway program that restored opportunity for multilingual students after decades of exclusion.
Her leadership has been recognized across the region. In 2024, the Greater Boston Labor Council nominated Yesenia Alfaro to the Wage Theft Advisory Committee, a critical body dedicated to combating wage theft and ensuring that every worker in Massachusetts is paid fairly for their labor. Her presence on the committee is a reflection of her unwavering commitment to justice and equity for working families, especially within immigrant communities.
